I took this photo back when the lottery had hit a record billion dollar payout. Like many others, I was hoping to record the humble beginnings of my new life as a billionaire. I did not win of course but when I buy the occasional ticket, I feel like I'm buying the right to dream a little. So in that sense, I'm buying a little entertainment, not throwing my money way.
The other day I drove by this little store and noticed they had a new sign, bold and garish in all it's shiny newness. Not that the old sign was any great design statement but it had a kind of understated solidity that fit the rundown exterior. Change is not always good but inevitable, luckily photograph is a way to preserve some of the past.
