I have long dreamed of having my own little collectables shop. A place where I could sell all the fabulous vintage stuff I find and maybe even real pies and coffee. A little part of that dream is coming true as I jump into a new Antiques collective that has just opened in near by Anderson, South Carolina. Sweet's Antiques & More is the dream of Marlene Sweet, an Anderson local and fellow Mid Century fan. I discovered her place through Instagram and from the moment I walked into her huge warehouse space I new it was meant to be.
It really is all about the hunt for me and since moving to the South 6 months ago I have found a ton of amazing items and been selling much of it in my Etsy shop. I enjoy that but am limited in what I can sell just by logistics. I've found so many great Mid Century furniture pieces I've had to pass on. While the cost of shipping large breakable items makes those a tough sell. It's also a lot of work! Taking the photos, researching, posting the items and then packaging and mailing. Whew! The beauty of a booth is once you set it up the hard work is done and it is just a matter of maintenance and keeping it fresh by hunting for new stuff.
I have done a lot of research and read a great little book co-written by a fellow Etsy seller called Selling in an Antique Mall: A Beginners Guide. Great info and as much as you think you know what you're getting into, there is always going to be a learning curve.
Another thing that made me choose Sweet's is their very reasonable rental rate (2-2.50 a square foot) and even more important a great commission deal. All the places I had checked out take a commission on what you sell but most also tack on additional fees for credit card transactions, advertising and who knows what else. Sweet's charges only a flat & very fair 8%, no additional fees.
It's a huge 10,000 Square foot space in a great location, right off the I-85 between Clemson and Greenville. Though it is filling up fast they are still seeking more vendors including unique artists and craftspeople. Many have waiting lists so this was another advantage for me, not only not having to wait but getting to pick a prime space! My little shop will be open officially Friday, if you're in the area come on by and check it out. They are open 7 days week (except holidays) from 10-6. If not in the area all the items posted here and much more are available in my Fresh Pie Vintage etsy shop.
