I am loving my new life in the South and have been crazy busy as I take on several new challenges. One of which is a personal photography project I've begun, photographing unconventional Southern "Bells" in vintage dresses I find at Estate Sales. My first subject is Megan, a local graphic design student I discovered via Instagram.
The dress I believe is handmade from the 50s or 60s and may have been for a dance, performance or maybe even a wedding as it also included a veil. There are gold hand beaded stars down the front and lots of tulle and it is now available for purchase here.
It certainly must have a story too it and on Megan I felt it had an almost Victorian feel to it. I was also inspired by my love for the series Victoria that just aired on PBS. That and I've been reading a fascinating biography of the amazing Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron.
I'm currently looking for models for this project. Women from age 10-100, all types, looking for interesting faces and unconventional beauties. If you are in the Upstate SC area and interested or know someone that might be feel free to click my email link on the left to contact me for full details. Or even better through my instagram @lararossignolfoto
