Escaping the madness and disappointment of our current political climate is not easy for any of us right now. However, if you have Netflix (and really who doesn't?) then I highly recommend the newly released series, The Crown. Beautifully conceived, every episode has the production values of a feature film with great writing and exceptional acting. It really transports you to another period when a young woman led with thoughtful grace at a very interesting time in history. This rare original Coronation souvenir tray with a photo by Yusuf Karsh was a lucky estate sale find.
Here are some other great options for some Royal escape. The Queen with the remarkable Dame Helen Mirren is a must see. The Queen's Sister is a soapy but fun movie about her hell raising sibling, Princess Margaret. It is also available on AcornTV, a great and inexpensive streaming channel for many things British. The first Queen Elizabeth, who was a many times Great Aunt to the current Queen. She has been played by many actresses including Ms. Mirren and the great Bette Davis but it is this version by Cate Blanchett that is my favorite. I also love Emily Blunt as the Young Victoria and watch out in January, when PBS will be showing the newest British import, Victoria an 8 part series that starts at the beginning of her reign. Finally for a french twist, I personally love Sophia Coppola's gorgeously photographed Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst.
